So I have a hunting knife with a very good blade, but the grip is too small and tiny for me.... It's not a sword, but I hope it should be done the same way? This is the knife: fallkniven.se/nothern/us-nl4.htmThe grip is made of stacked leather pieces now, and it has a concave waist that according to me should be convex... The ends are quite ok in size, but the center is too small. So I am thinking about taking the diameter in the ends down and glue a piece of rayskin on it, what do you think of this? The idea is to get the ends to be in the same size to fit with the original parts and to make the center a bit thicker. If it still is too small I think about to make a tsuka-ito like a katana but with thinner cotton cords! By the way, how thick is a rayskin? Has this been done to a knife and what glue should I use? Any other tips from anyone?

If the grip is too thin, I don't think a piece of rayskin is going to add the bulk you need.
I'd suggest either trading it in for a different knife, or possibly even removing the stacked-washer handle and carving your own grip from wood.

Well isn't the rayskin more than 1,5 mm (1/16" ?) thick?
That will increase the diameter with almost 10 mm (6/16")!
Trading it away is no question, it has my name on the blade and is a very good knive! There is also a stainless end cap and a guard wich I hope to use, and I don't want to make the grip larger than them! But possibly I will make a wooden grip and keep the leather untouched because it's really nice and well done!
The grip is large enough in the ends, but the middle is about 6/16" too thin, if I take the ends down to the same diameter as the center and glue a rayskin over that, the whole grip should have about the right size i believe? The thicker the skin is, the better for me!
So does anyone know the thickness of a rayskin?
