was wondering if anyone here could give a good guess or actually know whatever happened to that beautiful sword sean connery's character used in the 1975 movie - the wind and the lion - maybe director john milius kept it or its in a museum somewhere...what type would that be called - pirate sword? long blade arab berber type sword? one off custom?

Several minutes on Google and this is the best (sadly) picture I could find. That image shows a sword he used in that one scene only. If I remember correctly, that was actually the sword of one of his retainers. His character's sword was a long and relatively heavy bladed and long hilted scimitar(?). I use the (?) as I'm not that familiar with Muslim/Arab/Berber typology. While I love that film and the sword you mention, I have no idea as to the sword's current location.

Is it a two-handed saber? I haven't seen the film and it's a shame that there are no better pictures.

It's a big one, that's for sure. What would that be called? Tulwar? Shamshir? I'm thinking of the second set of pics, not kid's.

That does look like a big blade (based on giraut's photos). The grip looks plenty long enough to be a two-hander. Not to mention that on the last picture of the filmstrip, Sean Connery is chambering it overhead with both hands.
I am not very familiar with Arab/Middle Eastern type weaponry, but from what I've seen before, I wouldn't classify it as a scimitar. The blade seems too thin and long (almost more like a cutlass/saber).
This is my idea of a scimitar lol (This design is supposedly from Turkey).
Sean Connery is a good actor (I watched The Untouchables the other night ;D).
