I need to build (or have built) a new tsuka for my Ryumon, it's got two huge cracks in it.
Question: is it possible to make a longer tsuka work on a sword that was built for a shorter one?
The stock tsuka was a little over 12 inches, I would like the new tsuka to about 14 or 15.... Is this feasible?

I think there a limit to how long you can make a tsuka in relationship to the nagako. I think(not sure) the tsuka should only be 1/2 to one inch longer then the nagako. Could be wrong about this, but it is a safety issue and well worth checking into. Hope this helps. Dr stern would know for sure.

I have heard of upwards of 5 inches past the nakago being successful. The tsuka was made by a professional, but I am sure that you could make on to 3 inches if you are careful.

You probably don't want to have too much unsupported wood past the end of the nakago, but it you left the wood solid past that point, you might be able to get away with it.
