Dear Forum Members,
We regret to inform you that, effective immediately, Sword Buyers Guide will no longer be carrying Ronin Katana products, nor will we support or endorse their business. This decision was made after careful consideration and is based on several serious concerns that we have chosen not to disclose at this time due to potential legal implications..
We want to assure our customers that this decision is not related to the quality of Ronin Katana's products, but rather to our commitment to upholding the highest standards of business practices.
This formal parting of ways has also caused us to archive for re-tooling related projects that we partnered with Ronin with, including Forge Direct and Project X - all of which are in the Archives section of the store.
We appreciate your understanding and support during this transition. Thank you for your continued loyalty to Sword Buyers Guide.
Sincerely, Paul Southren, Sword Buyers Guide
P.S. I really cannot comment further at this time. I'd love to tell you all the full story, and as a PSA I am sure that it will all be revealed at the appropriate time. But that time is not now, so please do not ask for further details. This is really all I can legally say at this time.

Thank you, Paul, for giving an update on what you can share. I'm sure as you say when the time comes all will be revealed and we can then discuss at that time.

Somehow, I sense a story here. Thanks for the update Paul. Any chance you're blowing out your existing Ronin stock in the SBG store? *inserts plug*

My take on this is I noticed a couple new models of swords on their site that are direct copies of intellectual designs of major movie & video games, could be the reason.

I was browsing Reddit for information about katanas I think the day of or day after this announcement was posted and I saw it, and I saw a comment marked from four years ago where someone said they bought a Dojo Pro through SBG, the tsuka "cracked in half instantly on its first or second bottle cut", and they were "refused any form of return or compensation".
That's one side of the story, and I don't know the whole situation. If such situations have been recurring over the years, it may be that Ronin Katana has put Paul in an awkward position multiple times by refusing to honor SBG's warranty on multiple occasions.

I know drama can be exciting, but out of respect for Paul's position, I (as a fellow member, not a moderator) request we avoid speculation until facts can be shared. That may take a while if there are legal entanglements, but I can be patient. 👍

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that my Forge Direct Elite T10 Black Dragon Ouroboros Katana order made the cutoff........

If it is between SBG and Ronin, OK, I don't need to know, but if it's something that involves any potential customers (like many here)...
Not saying Paul should throw caution to the wind and spill the beans, but such an ominous message gives me bad feelings about Ronin and I want to know if it involves me when I buy a Ronin somewhere else. Very fertile ground for speculation such stories. Maybe would have been better to say "no longer featured for personal reasons" and release the adventure novel later.

Either way, Paul has his reasons. We may never know. And if anything, I think its a WONDERFUL bit of clarity, He does not need to tell us, or justify it, so grab your popcorn and wait. Speculating will only drive you nuts inventing and buying into conspiracies. My $.02

I believe Admin has made it clear that, unless and until he believes it is appropriate, no further information will be disclosed.
SBG has never claimed to regulate other vendors. If you choose to buy RK products elsewhere, you can do so armed with the information Admin was able and willing to share here.
Each is free to weigh his feelings and the information he has against the inherent uncertainty of the future, and make his own decisions accordingly.

In the absence of other information, one must consider the man: I don't need to know anything apart from "Paul has a good reputation as a decent person on this forum."
I believe I can safely assume from that premise that whatever the circumstances are, the post--however mysterious--was timely, was warranted, was meant as a public service announcement for this community's benefit, and was as informative as was possible.
There are such things as judicial gag orders. If litigation is currently underway, that might be the best he could have done to let us know that something is afoot.

... was meant as a public service announcement for this community's benefit, and was as informative as was possible. Could be. Either way, I wonder how much Ronin made up for the shops business. Hope it wasn't that much. Generally wondering lately what sells how much...

Shoulda dropped ronin a decade ago. Substandard garbage with abysmal customer service. H. S. T. S. Would still be in production if this move was made sooner. Better late than never I guess

Better late than never I guess Weren't they banned from this forum over some kind of petty drama a long while back? My memory is fuzzy though, and I'd rather not break any rules if that would be an issue. Just thought I should ask.

I’ve since been looking into it and it did seem to be over some petty stuff related to steel types and maybe some other claims. It’s too bad because they who must not be named evidently made great katana some with actual niku.

My memory is fuzzy though, and I'd rather not break any rules if that would be an issue. Just thought I should ask. Plain and simple made a better product all around than Ronin. Instead of upping their quality to compete they resorted to mud slinging and underhanded tactics to get banned and wiped the forum of any mention of them. This move at the time was a death sentence for a newer sword company. When people shared their negative experiences with ronin they were accused of "bad mouthing" ronin and were warned or banned out right. The forum lost a lot of really great members at the time because they refused to lie about ronins shoddy quality and business practices, johnwalter for example. (There was a thread where the ronin rep posted a customers private emails about a negative purchase in an attempt to shame them) This is too little too late from SBG. They allowed ronin to run the site and drive off any competition and innovation for years all in the pursuit of the money ronin could bring in. I wonder what they finally did that made SBG smarten up when they've been defending and covering for their bad behavior for years

As you can see my post still won't allow me to type out H. S. T. S. These are the lengths they went to to preserve the monopoly ronin had at the time. Sad and pathetic
