So I recently picked up a couple Shin Gunto with old blades, and one of the tsuka in particular is a fair bit rougher then I was expecting. The ito is worn enough to disintegrate with a strong look, and the samegawa used almost looks more like fabric for how dried and shrunken it is. I think the core itself could be saved with some glue and wood filler, and the fittings are all also alright too. While I've taken on ito rewraps before I'd definitely appreciate some good recommendations for where to buy decent samegawa, and possibly a colour match to the correct brown silk ito that most gunto blades were mounted in. If at all possible I'd really like to try and keep the overall look of the military mount as closely as I can. Thanks.

I get my samegawa and ito from Namikawa Heibei. They have real silk and cotton ito. If you want some brown silk ito, send me a PM. I'll send you enough for the wrap pro bono, as I bought a whole roll of brown, and I'm not going to use it all. (I like brown, but I'm not going to wrap 10 katanas with it!)
