I ordered a custom jian from Garrett back in May and it arrived here Monday, Nov. 3, which was, unfortunately, the day before Election Day here in the States. It was actually ready some time ago, but the Chinese gov't. put in some restrictions on shipping sharp, pointy things just before the Olympics and the forge could not ship until after those restrictions were lifted. I was working for the county election department preparing for the election, etc., and so did not get home until very late, but I opened 'er up for a look-see anyway! Because of the election work, I haven't had time to do much more than drool over it from time to time, but now the chaos that is an election is done and over with until next time. I took it outside the other day and took a few pics (see below) and also couldn't resist a trial cut. The sword is beautiful, and well worth the price (OK, it's well over the SBG guide of $300.00, but, man!). It handles like a dream and "sings" through the air. Cuts like crazy, too. It sliced through the milk jug full of water like it was air. I'm in love. The blade is 27", scabbard and grip are ebony. Fittings have a dragon motif. Blade comes well oiled, nicely polished and VERY SHARP! The sword comes in a nice little box the cloth covering of which reflects the motif of the fittings. This is my fourth sword and first Chinese, but it won't be my last, that's for sure.

Wow, that's a really nice one! How much did that cost exactly? In round numbers, $500 plus shipping. This would normally have been out of my reach, but Pres. Bush's "economic stimulus" check took care of that problem! Not sure what it would cost now, what with the recent economic turmoil.

I'm surprised, I would have believed a price tag of 1000 plus on it.

It's VERY attractive... I've been waiting to see some of Garrett's work hit the market. Yummy.

I was very glad when glaciersteel finally got his sword after being patient for 6 months. I'm even happier to hear he likes it.
He was able to get a pretty good deal on it back then. The only thing I'm not happy about is that the dragon is lacking scales, but I suppose I'm nitpicky. The original example didn't have any either.

This is very beautiful jian . For some reason this jian remind me of my grand ma , she love watching Kungfu serie on t.v. when Hong kong still had TVB and Atv ,her favoite characters was proficient with Jian (he would fought multiple opponents with jian and didn't even broke a sweat )

the jian is the emperor of weapons in chinese martial arts, it is the hardest weapon to truly master, it can also be a thoroughly unpredictable weapon if you don't know how to use it. I too would like to know the weight. I would like one of these with a three row twist core one day.

I haven't had the chance to weigh it, so I cannot give you the exact weight, but in our discussions, Garrett indicated it should come in at about 2 lbs.

Or was it drawn free hand with nothing but the character himself for inspiration?
