Hi, I'm a newbie in the swords world, I bought this LoTR Anduril Sword, It's made of carbon steel and it has a stain on the blade, I was told that rubbing alcohol or WD-40 could remove it but it didn't work, after trying to remove it I wipe all the rubbing alcohol and WD-40 with a microfiber cloth and put some 3 in 1 oil to protect it from oxidation. Some people recommend to uso metal polish like Brasso, but i'm worried that it may damage the blade since it's abrassive, or if it will damage the inscriptions on the blade. Any suggestions? P.S.: This stain is in the same place on the other face of the blade, that makes me think that it may be a polished issue when fabricated.

Likely a finish issue, I would not try to fix it because you likely need to refinish the whole sword to get it all to blend together unless someone knows the exact abrasive and grit it was finished with - since it is a collectors item and has some engraving I really wouldn't unless you are fine possibly ruining it. If you were to try, go only one direction with the polishing strokes: From grip to tip. It could still be something stuck (alcohol can't dissolve everything it could be) or corroosion but more likely it's where one of the finishing belts/wheels didn't reach. Only ways to know for sure are a jewelers lupe/microscope where you can see the scratch pattern clearly. Also indoors light is bad for really showing what it is, try sunlight or a very strong flashlight.

I posted in the other thread I think it's an oil stain. I had some of these recently on a sword. 0000 steel wool worked for me. Rubbing alcohol doesn't dissolve every oil well.

If it's a crusty stain I'd use a cotton swab and acetone.
