Went to Kult Of Athena and grabbed the Cold Steel Gim sword. www.sword-buyers-guide.com/gim-sword.html I've been looking around for years to find a good first sword to buy. I really have to thank Paul for SBG. I honestly just found it a couple days ago and it was the sole factor that emboldened me to just go out and buy one. And his extremely positive review of the sword was one of things that influenced me to get it (although I'd been looking at it for a while now, I just had little clue as to what it looked like in action, and couldn't get a real feel for how it looked, as Paul stated in his review). From everything I've heard this sword seems to be amazing. But I'd like to hear from others who have bought it. What did you guys think of it?

I also bought mine based on Paul's advice and also my first real sword. I am very pleased with the sword and have since bought several more swords based on Paul's personal advice, SBG, and this forum. Thanks to Paul and all the contributing forumites, and congrat's on choosing a great sword!

Good to know everyone else has had good things to say about it as well.
I might try to dull the blade though as I'm not going to be doing much cutting with it anyway, I'd just like to swing it around. Can anyone suggest an easy way to do this without completely ruining the look of the blade? I don't want to accidentally maim anyone with it, so dulling it would probably be a good idea.

Well, if I were you I'd leave this sword as is and get a practice sword to learn safety practices and technique with then you woild have this one to continue with and the occasional cutting when your ready. The cutting is so sweet. A blunt steel or wooden practice sword would work and can be found for a much lower price point.

I see, probably a better idea in the long run, plus, that way, I stand no chance of horribly sempriniing something up.
