What sword is it? While you may or may not be doing anything wrong, if it's a sword with an awful starting grind (Kingston Arms XIV) or one with very soft steel, that will make a big difference.

Huh, Albion are pretty consistent with their grinds. They do a solid convex edge. Are you resharpening after using it?

Yes, i cut with my swords and hit the stand, some very minor roll on the edge. Got that off no problem.
also had a look at the sharpening videos linked in this sub forum and got my edge back.. litteraly.
So problem solved.
Also Albion puts a decent edge, but not a very sharp edge which is what you want if you are cutting soft targets.

Have you tried stropping it? You might have a burr. If you don't have a strop you cann just use a piece of wood. It's either that or the apex isn't good, meaning the two sides don't meet perfectly. Shine a flashlight on the edge, do you see glinting?

Tom Kinder has several videos I recommend you watch and follow. The 1st one also goes over edge geometry and sharpening theory I guess you would call it. In these videos he reviews 2 methods of hand sanding (blade fixed to table or sandpaper fixed), and using a 1x30 belt sander.
I can get a sword sharp enough to shave a spiders arse thanks to Tom and his videos. I prefer a 1x30 for most sharpening. I practiced on cheap machetes first back in the day.
