Here's the first three of a new "Economy" line of knives I'll be doing every so often :)
The principle idea of it is to put out high quality blades, at a more affordable price by using more standard materials and minimizing time spent on hand sanding/finishing.
Each batch will have different styles of blades available, with a different color and wood combination for the handles. Custom simple Sayas can be made for an additional $75-$100 to any knife. Knives can be made to order, if a blade ever sells and you feel you missed out or you have a specific blade style you're looking for, just message me and I can make sure to put that in the next batch for you.
These all have 1095 blades that are hand forged to rough dimensions including their length, overall profile, and distal taper. From there they are hand ground on my 2x72 to set main bevels, and then an ultrafine scotch brite belt is used after the blades have been taken to approximately 300 grit. Each blade is then hand sharpened on Japanese whetstones up to 1000 grit and stropped.
All Wa handles are made inhouse as well and tangs are burned in for final fit. I leave the blue, purple, and straw coloured oxides on near the ferrule after I soften the tang which helps with durability.
Blades are heat treated to about 62-63 RC, and are NOT suited for hard or frozen materials, this is not a crowbar, it's a very precise kitchen tool with a very specific intended use! You wouldn't take a Porsche 911 GT3 to the destruction derby would you? same idea lol
All blades are shipped with a simple plastic blade protector.
Thanks for looking everyone!
PS: for some reason the uploader skewed the ratio of some of the pictures, PM me and I can text/email you higher resolution photos of anything you like.
