Hello everyone, after years of browsing, it's exciting to be finally registering a forum account with SBG. The knowledge shared here is fantastic, and I'm looking forward to learning more about swords of all kinds.

I tend to focus on British Georgian and Victorian swords, guns and daggers; Indo-Persian arms and armour; and I have written extensively about Sardinian and Italian 19th century military swords - so quite a random mixture! In truth, I love everything. How about you?

Century British and German sabers (I fence), some Javanese kerises, a variety of Philippine bolos, and just completed a wood and leather dap for one of my antique khukuris, but most of my swords are Japanese (a mix of nihonto and good reproductions) and I have more expertise on nihonto, Japanese history, and JSA/JMA, than in the other areas.

Welcome to what seems to be the last fully functional sword forum. Yes, it's a bit sad to see them dwindle really. Many people migrated to FB but that platform is pretty bloated now and terrible for researching on. Long may SBG continue!

Many people migrated to FB but that platform is pretty bloated now and terrible for researching on. Long may SBG continue! Also reddit, a lot goes on on r/swords, but also a lot of crap. I also feel the bigger a forum or similar gets, the nastier the atmosphere there, with trolls and angry people. MyArmoury has been on new registry lock down for 4 years, which is weird since it seems to be running (also seems to load better the last month or so). Let's indeed hope SBG stays up for a long time. (Is it Highlander-rules now?)

Also reddit, a lot goes on on r/swords, but also a lot of crap. I also feel the bigger a forum or similar gets, the nastier the atmosphere there, with trolls and angry people. Here, IMHO, our mods have very competently prevented that from destroying the forum. Also, none of our mods have ground political, religious, or personal axes while moderating, and Paul's focus seems to be on rationally selling swords at a profit, rather than on some loosely-wrapped quixotic crusade (y'all know which extinct board I'm pointing that finger at.....).
We can be thankful that, unlike many forums, we have (mostly ) adult supervision.
