Do we know this guy? Anyhow, he does a pretty good job with very simple tools. But its a great example of doing it on the fly, and learning as you go. Though the machete guys will be screeching about the heresy of modding one from vanilla.

I have a couple of issues with his construction, like the hammered on bolt. But He's learning, and SHOULD be proud of that. Now to get him to etch a skull and bones on the blade...

Been planning on doing something similar, but more for balance reasons than looks. Just can't figure out how to attach it all since I can't weld an extension to the tang. I'd use the wooden grip version, it has a bit less meat at the end unfortunately and I can't give up much from the grip. Had been thinking of just bolting it to the wood, but that seems a recipe for desaster.

I would consider something designed at the end that had a twist that you could tuck under the grip and hold it with a pin thru the tang. Might be ugly, but it may work. Edit Or maybe a couple pieces with 90 degree bends, riveted to the tang, and the flat bits at the end you can rivet the guard to.

Don't need to weld to make a tang extension. Cut mild steel plates in the shape of handle scales, but extending further out the rear. (In this case tap that back end with threads, though not what I'd personally do, eschewing the knuckle bow.) But I've been making rock solid tang extensions on all sorts of pieces this way for almost 40 years.

That was a pretty cool build. Y’all focusing on the tang, I just kept focusing on the fact he’s doing all that work in a long sleeve dress shirt. Who does that? Not the safest.

I have a Belloto ( Brazil) that needs this treatment, thanks for the ideas.
