Wow, a significant improvement. You sure know how to put an edge on a blade, eh? I'm tempted to have my grandmother watch the first part of the video, as bagpipes and Amazing Grace each alone bring her to tears, but bagpipes playing Amazing Grace...well! (I'm terrible, but hey, I'll stop the video before the second half. ) (grandmother is british, but I believe her mother was Irish? Or was that my grandfather...)

It is nice to know that yours would slice bottles before sharpening too. WAY better after though! Cool videos. Thanks Mike!

Great review as always Mike - and I look forward to see how they turn out 'out of the box' once the sharpening issue has been addressed. These and the Valiant Armoury Signature Series swords really are an amazing revolution for the medieval sword market - I look forward to seeing the others in this series as they come out.

I love the overall shape of this sword. Someday I may have to get one even though I think it might be too big for me. I really want to try and learn how to do those amazing cuts Mike did at about 3min 20sec (I could watch that slo mo cut over and over, really nicely done Mike!). lol @ pogue mahone! Debbie

I love the overall shape of this sword. Someday I may have to get one even though I think it might be too big for me. The Bastardsword that's coming early in December might suit you better; it's a bit shorter and lighter. Having said that some quite petite women have cut with swords this size at our cutting parties; you might be surprised.

Having said that some quite petite women have cut with swords this size at our cutting parties; you might be surprised. Do you have some "size" numbers for us? The "bastard" size is where my interest is at the moment, and I am very much looking forward to hearing more about this one. cheers, Ancalagon

The bastard sword is gonna be around 43 inches overall with a 33.5 inch blade. Not exact measurements...but you can find those on tinker's website. I'm very much looking foward to the bastard sword as well.
DJ, unless your under 5 feet tall, a 48 inch longsword isn't out of the question for two handed use. So if you like how this blade looks over the plainer bastard sword, I wouldn't let the length stop you from getting one.

I find this one to be perfect for shorter folks. It has a long handle matched with a relatively short blade. That makes it very quick and very controllable. DJ, I'm 5'6" and it fits me perfectly.

I'll vouch that Mike is short. Of course, I only do this from way over here, well out of range... The thing with big swords is you just have to remember how big they are and move them accordingly.

Fantastic review Mike. Shame the edge needed so much work, but in the process you learned how hard the steel was, which is a good thing indeed.
My Tuned VA Arming sword has a fairly dull edge, too, that I'm dissatisfied with. I havent had a big cutting session with it, but my Windlass FV seems to cut boxes better...Something that shouldn't be happening. I'll be working on that edge for sure (though I am a bit nervous to sharpen a sword that, to me, was quite expensive hehe). +1 Karma for a great view of such a wonderful piece.

I've just been informed that the Bastardswords (sharp and blunt) are in-stock at Edgefair.com The prices don't seem to be listed yet, however. These swords are shipping out to retailers today. Very excited to see these swords... there are some on their way to me too. Whoo Hoo!
