Hi, Hoping I can get an answer to this question. I know French swords after a certain date were mandated to have the month and year of manufacture on the spine of the blade however I occasionally come across a sword with something a little different. Can someone tell me what this is and why it’s different? Thanks,

An image of the whole inscription would be helpful. Not sure what you are saying though...that's the December 1813. 10bre being December (the "dec" coming from the Latin for 10)...sometimes seen as Xbre

I didn’t know what 10, or other numbers I’ve seen, and ‘bre’ meant. Is this a common variation found on French swords as opposed to the month written in French?

Yes, not uncommon.
