Hello all, The commission time was 16 months and tomorrow will be 24 months. They recently posted a reel www.facebook.com/reel/1126576231675646, on Facebook, of a sword that was the type that I ordered and asked, on the 9th of March for the last part of payment with shipping costs saying the sword should be done in 3 weeks. I sent payment and asked if they could let me know when they received the bank transfer. Since then..... silence. I have reached out 3 times using different methods and have heard nothing so far. Does anyone know if there is a problem with them, as they have mentioned health problems before? I am starting to get a bit worried about being ghosted.

I had a short email exchange with Jan on the 13/14th of this month. Seemed pretty quick to respond.
Which is slightly concerning, given what you've said. I'll have to keep an eye on this thread over the next couple weeks, before I send him a deposit.

I used facebook messenger, Facebook post and regular email, and haven't gotten just a simple, "yes your payment arrived'. Not sure what to think.

Can you update this thread when you get a reply/when the sword arrives? I've seen a couple posts on the net of people who have received swords from him this year. So, I wouldn't be too worried. Just a shame his communication is lacking, once money changes hands.

When money is involved the communication is great. But then after..... I just sent another email today after a week of no response. Not expecting much.

After sending a bit stronger of an email, I finally heard from Elgur. They apologized and said they have had some problems with the blades. It is being worked on and that the payment did indeed arrive. Not sure if this thread or my 4th message to them inclined them to respond. If they had told me my payment arrived more than a month ago, I would not have worried so much. Still will wait and see how this progresses.

But, I'm happy to hear you've finally had a response. Looks like I may hold off placing an order with them, until yours arrives. Which is a shame. As I don't think anyone can beat their price/quality ratio.

That's a relief. My experience with El Gur was also communication poor, but they did eventually deliver a killer product. Hopefully you'll be as happy with what you get!

As a prospective buyer, would you recommend commissioning a piece from them? Ignoring communication issues/wait list times. Yes with a caveat. I ordered their deluxe feder with no intention of ever using it. It's the closest thing I own to a parade sword; I bought it because I thought it was beautiful, and I use it in class to demonstrate movements, but I don't bang it up. I can tell you that there's no one on the market that will give more aesthetically for the money and that the balance is superb. Having never beat up the sword, though, I can't speak to it's quality. Based on pell work, the vibrational node in the handle is kinda weird, but nothing more than slightly distracting. Other than that, there's no indication that it wouldn't work well, but unlike my other swords, my El Gur feder hasn't been and never will be put through the ringer. Unless I become wealthy enough to buy another...haha

Unfortunately OP, your experience is par for the course. The only custom work that's ever been completed on time were swords that were works already in progress, that I put my name on when they were already 90% finished.
Other than that, I've never had one delivered anywhere close to on time in over twenty years. The last one had a stated one year lead time that wound up being two. The current one just went late after the 12 to 18 month stated lead time passed. Honestly, I'm expecting another year.
This is why this will be my last commission. From now on it's only completed work I'll even consider. I'm getting too old to put up with the frustration.

Yes, frustration is growing with this commission, as once again I have heard nothing lately since their last update about blades, and I am not sure if I will do another from the beginning project stages again. I have had a few others, with different smiths, have problems as well. I had one where right at the end of the build process, the smith went on a holiday, as Swedes are accustomed to, then they forgot to ship it when they got back as other projects occupied their mind. Only one went very well and that was at the beginning of their career, so hopefully they have continued that trajectory.
