Finally had a chance to take a couple photos of my 2 new 1911's I picked up recently, one is a 1911 by Cimarron and the other is a 1911A1 by Auto Ordnance. The one by Cimarron isn't fully a 1911, they did do one thing and they lowered the ejection port like the A1 models have on them, but you can see the other changes from a 1911 vs a 1911A1.

I prefer the feel of the arched mainspring housing of the 1911a1, so I've added them to recent manufacture 1911s that didn't include them

The slimmer grip fits my hand better, but there is no way in the world I'll have too little pressure on the grip safety when in-hand. It's great that the 1911 can be enjoyed with so many variations beyond what Samuel Colt initially envisioned.

I actually have another 1911 coming, this one from Springfield Armoury, their garrison commander model, this one will be my carry gun.

Samuel Colt was dead and buried long before the 1911.
The design is all John Moses Browning (blessed be his name, amen)
(except for the 1911a1 modifications)

Sorry, I posted after being up two days. I only just now awoke from my stupor. My sleep schedule is a mess right now.

I worked in the industry a while, that is an incredibly embarrassing error I should never make. Kind of drove home that I really needed that sleep.

And neither was Samuel Colt. A great inventor, great salesman and promoter, but it took a while to get things right.

They also make Grip Safeties with extensions, for super positive engagement if that is a concern:
I am a bigger fan of DA/SA systems with higher capacities, but the 1911 when done right is still a viable platform.

I have a blued model coming, I also have a Smith & Wesson 1911 commander as well on the way, also blued, this one is scandium alloy.

I have a very close friend than has a S&W 1911 in stainless and it was an excellent shooter, very accurate...they used to make the major components for Kimber back in the day ( not sure if they still do). With Crimarron, they used to have the slide and frame made by Armscor...again not sure who makes them now. Internals and fit are supposed to be done "in house".
Many moons ago I had a Stainless Colt 1991-A1 that had Issues ( both mags and feeding), they guy who worked on it quite messed up the throat job, learned my lesson only to send off to an accomplished smith.

thanks ive long suspected my high grip and large hands on the Gi series also sold my s&w e series, it shot lovely but had the loosest slide to frame (which was very minimal)

Some people like the "loose as a goose" 1911's as that is more in line with GI specs to handle fouling and some limited amount of dirt, but often one sacrifices accuracy if loose tolerances affect the lock up as well. While it's fine for the rails to be tight in the civilian world, sometimes it needs to have gaps in certain areas like the "dust cover" of the frame:
A big issue with some 1911's is feeding HP ammo. Not every one will need a ramp polish or a full bore ramp job, possibly also a better mag catch ( Like EGW) but some do...even from the same Company. And also magazines can be an issue as well in terms of feeding.
My Favorite 1911 is not very traditional, but an example of the double stack models that use a more modern Magazine with a more modern feed lip design. YMMV.

I just got a mint Ciener drop-in .22 conversion for my 1911, and it's tons of fun to shoot. Very nice workmanship, accurate, and operates smoothly.

Just got my new commander sized 1911 in, boy does this feel nice in the hand, can't wait to go and shoot it when I get some free time and can get to the range.
