Hey folks,
Any advice (beyond the infomation/rules threads) on selling and then shipping swords to buyers? I've done it on fleabay, but got scammed hard and don't trust that place an ounce.
My main questions are where are you getting boxes, how are you packing them up, and where do you go to get the price of the shipment (CONUS) UPS/USPS, lucky guess, etc.
The sword sizes will be bastar/two hander with scabbard, and a single hander, with wooden scabbard.
Any best practices are appreciated.

unique pictures that clearly show you own it are always good
some people use 3rd party shipping brokers like "Pirate Ship" to get better prices.

Expanding on the proof of ownership, one way I'd suggest that's probably hard to fake (and thus should increase confidence) is to take a picture of the sword with your typed out listing in the background, like so:
Pirateship is my go-to for generating labels -- saves a lot of money given how bulky these shipments are. My own practice for my listings, though, is that I just set the price to include shipping, so I don't have to surprise a buyer later with an extra $50 tacked on.
As for packing, my personal favorite way is rifle cases. Swords generally fit inside those, and I'll usually zip-tie them to the inside foam to keep them from shuffling around inside the case. The case itself can also be zip-tied closed, and UPS/FedEX will take it and ship it as-is if you stick a label directly onto the case. It's a conspicuous package, so I generally default to requiring a signature unless the buyer requests that I don't.

I've only sold a couple and was lucky to have their boxes still available. Re shipping, you can either quote without shipping and give them a quote at time of order (after you've boxed it) based on their address. Or prepack and weigh and measure the box you will use and get a quote from your place to a far point in the US on UPS, UPS, FedEx, Pirate Ship and roll estimate into your price for a price including US delivery with a stated ship method.

As this wasn't a Classified ad, I moved it to General for more visibility to boost discussion.
