Putting this out there in advance to give people time to think about it and perhaps budget for it. Albion will (presumably) be at Combat Con this year - July 25-28 - and I'll be attending. I am willing to proxy buy Albion swords for members of the forum. I've done this in the past for several other members - theneckrubmancer, pennijr, madirish, and others.
Here's how it works:
- When I arrive at Combat Con, I will take some photos of Albion's booth. I can take close-ups or focused shots on specific models if requested.
- I do not provide any thoughts, impressions, or QC on the swords. If I've already reviewed one of the models, please check out that review. Otherwise, a crowded con is not conducive to anything more than superficial inspection and handling. And let's face it, it's Albion and that first impression is always, "oh, that's nice! I want one!"
- Being that these are con swords, they are often handled by a large variety of people. Sometimes they don't get wiped down quite as quickly or thoroughly as would be ideal after handling. Hence they will sometimes exhibit a few more scuffs and occasionally some light patina.
- If you decide you want to purchase a sword from Albion through me, I will provide you will my Zelle information so you can send the money. Please note that Zelle is the only payment method I will accept. No exceptions.
- Once I confirm receipt of the money, I will purchase it from Albion. Albion will keep it at their booth for the duration of the con so I don't have to deal with taking a sword back to a hotel room and leaving it there. At Albion's discretion, they may leave the sword on the table so people can still admire and handle them.
- When I bring the sword back home, I will work to get it shipped to you as quickly as possible. You will need to pay for the full cost of shipping - I will offer you the option of USPS, UPS, or FedEx. Insurance for the full price of the sword is mandatory. You agree that I cannot be held responsible for any problems with shipping - once the carrier has it, it is between you and the carrier. I will communicate with the carrier and advocate for you if necessary.
- I usually have some leftover boxes and packaging material that I can use, but if I don't have a box that will fit your sword, I'll need to buy one, and that cost will be added to the shipping cost.
- I will only ship within the continental US.
- I will proxy buy a maximum of 3 Albion swords at this event. Sometimes personal friends want to buy a sword through me, and they will take precedence, but otherwise it is on a first-come first-served basis - as in, whoever responds quickest once I provide availability gets preference. I highly recommend you provide me a method of communication that you can respond to quickly, and that you are ready to respond the first day of the con.
If you are interested, please send me a private message. I recommend providing a phone number for text messaging, but other methods such as Facebook messenger, Discord, or email work as well. It is helpful if you provide me a list of what models you are looking to potentially buy, but is not required.
If you're reading this and we've already discussed a proxy buy at Combat Con (likely because I've already proxy bought for you), I ask that you send me a message anyway, just to help ensure I have an accurate list of people.
I do not charge anything for this. However, I do have a few incentives:
- I use a credit card with cash back to make the purchases. So I get a few bucks that way.
- Albion offers a "buy 6, get 1 free" deal. If I buy 6 swords in a year, I get the average cost of those swords as credit towards a new sword. Last year I managed to snag my Principe for about $350 thanks to this, and proxy buys were a big portion of the 6 swords.
- Lastly, at your discretion, you may choose to allow me to hold on to your new sword for a little longer to put together a video about it. This can be something as simple as a first impressions video - something that will usually take me 1-2 weeks to do - up to a full review. Completely up to you, and no hard feelings if you'd rather get your new sword ASAP. I understand the eagerness!
I reserve the right to refuse to proxy buy for any or no reason.
