If you've given up the Internet for Lent recently, you might have missed the viral news articles covering how Home Depot was selling a sword. I was wondering if y'all know if this sword is battle ready, or if it is made of real, folded, military grade steel, or maybe if it's a good substitute for the Albion Chieftain. I'd like your guy's thoughts on this amazing replica. Edit: /s ...

I hear a loud PING in someones future.
EDIT: I think I found it on etsy with better pictures for 115$, it's literally sharpened flat stock, it looks horrible. The scabbard looks like thy typical pakistani ones, you know the type.

Yea saw this a while back in a Google article. Seems they're offering display swords now for those that want a medieval motif. At first I thought it was like Walmart where they allow 3rd party sales online but this is actually sold by Home Depot. Haven't been in a store lately to see if they're actually sold in store though.

They've had this on offer for a long time.....I am surprised there have not been internet stories of casualties and fatalities from it.

"IF" you read the ad you should have seen listed, under the price, " - Made of Stainless Steel, metal and leather to ensure durable use" When you see a cheap price it should make you all the more weary and careful. Stainless steel wall hanger just waiting to shatter on impact with something hard. NOT EVEN comparable to anything ever made by Albion.

I suspect you meant "wary", but I'm weary of trash like this, too. Somebody needs to post the Shop At Home classic fail again, so here it is .

Again I think the idea of "durable use" is being misconstrued as "functional use". These are meant for hanging on the wall and being sold as such on the website.
I think a lot of us forget that there is a wider market of enthusiasts who don't have a focus on functionality or even historical accuracy that like swords. Wallhangers are perfect for these people because they're not only cheap but easily maintained for display being made of Stainless over Carbon Steel. At this point and time (thanks a lot to us here on SBG) the difference between functional and display is made quite clear to the average consumer so I'm not as worried about people being stupid and trying to use these Braveheart replicas as functional swords than I would be ten years ago lol. Of course there's always that one out of ten idiot who will...

I believe the correct phrase should have been "Home Depot Sword-Like Object for sale"

Reading might be fundamental, but I've seen muppets on the web asking about how to sharpen this model in particular....so, there's that. Wherever there is a chance for humans to do something utterly stupid...we will not disappoint. While it is marketed under "Wall Sculptures".....it is built for "durable use". Nowhere does it say that use is JUST as a wallhanger, so someone who is not too smart or too well informed could easily infer "durable use as a sword to swing around at stuff and chop branches with".

My friends bet you specifically would not realize this was sarcasm. I thought including "battle ready" and "folded military grade" would make that clear.

You forgot to add the /s tag to your post. And ruin the fun of seeing who would have an aneurism? I think not. Too much fun. X'D I genuinely want to see this sword reviewed on April 1st though. Home Depot sword; what in the world... lol
