So I was too late to the game and no one got a screenshot of his fake paper? I didn’t see it either, but I was told by someone who did that the name on the photoshopped paper is yet another prominent member of the community. I’m not going to put who, exactly, on this thread, but it was a hilariously poor choice of person to impersonate.

In all seriousness it is disturbing that the last couple of attempted scams involved members with accounts that have existed for a couple of years and contain numerous posts. My prior impression was that scammers were typically those with relatively new accounts and few, if any, posts. Which brings up several possibilities: their accounts were hacked; scammers have gotten smart and gone into sleeper mode; good members gone bad. Guess it does not matter, except that a record on this forum in not necessarily an indicium of trustworthiness. Perhaps it never was. In any case, this only underscore that due diligence as to actual ownership is a must in any transaction and no seller should be offended by the same.

Yeah, these are my observations / conclusions too... Hacking, scammers playing the REALLY long game, or people for whatever reason burning their bridges with one scam (of course, they could turn around and make a new account and start the process over again).
The one with the Albion Count and fancy scabbard had actually made reviews on here, and seemed like a legitimate member... This Viceroy one was dormant for years, though, before popping up with this. Well, they are making things more interesting (unfortunately).

How does someone go from having 200+ posts to only 5? Or is that a result of the ban? The OP would otherwise be deleting all traces of themselves off the forum.

I wonder if the scammers are in fact reading our earlier brainstorm on scammer prevention and in fact are hacking old dormant accounts to try and appear genuine? Seems odd we'd have 2-3 old members just pop in out of nowhere and try to sell Albions. Maybe mods could send them Emails and ask or check current and previous IP addresses.
For example if I was off SBG for 1-4 years and all of a sudden I'm selling Albions for $500 a Pop, I'm sure my original email or IP would be different than what is on my account now, (probably over seas lol) "Hey Dave, long time no see, when did you move to Pakistan and aquire 4 Albions?"

I’m thinking the accounts were compromised. The posts from 2020 and before look, as a matter of interpretation, as if the writing style was more coherent than the posts we got yesterday. It seemed almost like there was a slight language barrier present in the writing this time around.

Scammers are getting smart and hacking old accounts... It's sad really.
Despite this, I personally don't think that there is much more we can do outside of the name/timestamp thing. If it looks fishy, don't bite. This is a pretty solid community, and seeing how fast we're taking down these hacked accounts doesn't lead me to believe we need to revamp our entire verification process. As with dealing with ANY online shopping experience: buyer beware, first and foremost. Legitimate sales go through here recycling old post's photos similar to this one, although they're willing to verify in other ways.
The best defense against scammers is and always will be constant vigilance.

I personally really like the idea of a picture of the sword with the SBG post in the background. I think it should be quite difficult to fake. I wouldn’t say we should require it for all new listings, but I started doing it with mine, like below:

Looking at OP’s old posts, it’s ironic (and unfortunate) that nearly the last thing they posted about was getting scammed by a new member, only for their account to get stolen by another scammer 8 years later. In the same 2016 thread is discussing how the forum should highlight bad users and the benefit of PayPal buyer protection. History likes to repeat itself and all that. That being said, nice catch everyone. Due diligence at its best
