rust has been a thorn in our sides for some time now just bought this rusty RMJ hawk and testing out immersion with Evapo Rust. Since it is a chelating agent, it claims to not to cause damage like acids and seems to be quite nontoxic Credit to: 1. Prepped with dish soap water then wiped off with acetone. -rust in the threads (this is a RMJ shrike designed to prevent electrocution from wall wires) -rust likely under the handle overmold -darker rust on edges 2. Dropped into food saver bag on 2/19/24 @ 1300 3. Um leaking from the puncture from the spike (already bit me also with the rusty portion)...make sure to double bag! (no pun intended) Initially hung/clamped vertical but got much better coverage with lying it down. will probably incline it on both sides of the hawk after 12 hrs to see if rust deposits sink out of the handle

@24 hrs and not much change. a few specks of rust floating around.
not sure if the rust is too deep or if temp was too low (liquid prob in the 60s around room temp indoors) so currently have a heating pad on it...
might have to break out the ultrasonic cleaner but dont think ill be trying it on a sword anytime soon

He should try it on something that's actually rusty!
Works awesome but don't use it on anything with a nice patina, it turns it all ugly grey.
Jon
One cool feature of evaporust is if you have two different types of steel like on a good quality ax head or drill bit or chisel the higher carbon harder steel will end up much darker than the low carbon steel.
