Hey folks, pretty much the same as the title. Does anyone know of any company that's ever made a reproduction of either just the head or the entirety of a sharp jumonji yari? It's always been my favourite spear and I've always wanted to own one. Recs would be much appreciated! Thanks, and have a great day

There was a few sites that had them, tho I can't remember anymore. I can Vouch for Fire and Iron as a very reputable maker, worth the money. If you're looking for something cheaper I recommend just contacting Ryansword and see if they can make one for you on a whim, send some good pictures and specs.

Thank you so much folks! Fire and Iron does seem good, but maybe a bit out of my budget right now. I wonder if Yao at Hanbon would do it if I asked him.

I would go with Ryansword, but no harm in asking. Sorry we couldn't be of more help lol. I think luyuesword used have them but their website just has a regular one blade yari now. Also suggest poking around Nihonto groups on Facebook, prices are all over the place lately so never know when you'll find a good deal.

I wasn't even expecting an answer, to be honest, seeing as the style is on the less common side (IIRC, but I imagine I'd more than likely get crickets if I asked about something like a reproduction kagi yari lol). So thank you both for chiming in, and I'll remember to ask Ryansword about it sometime!

Dynasty forge used to make them. They sold the last remnants of the blades years ago. I was able to pick one up off ebay a while back.
I asked some Chinese manufacturers if they'd make one and the prices were not much more than nihonto.
Be careful if you're looking for nihonto yari. A lot of jumonji yari are fully hardened. Be aware that they're usually a lot smaller than you'd expect.

Wait they used to make them?? That's awesome, wish they still sold those :,)
How much is a nihonto jumonji yari, usually? Dunno if I have the money lol

If I remember, the jumonji yari was part of their forge-folded daimyou line, and ran around $1.5k or so.
Honestly, the offering from Art of Fire and Iron, linked above, is not unreasonable for what it is.
If you're lucky, you can find a jumonji yari in iffy shape for about the same price, but the blade will be much smaller and will likely be without any furniture.

Alright, good to know. Seeing as I'm in university right now, I'm on a tight budget, so maybe I'll get one sometime in the future. For now, I do really like LK Chen's spear heads, so maybe to make up for my spear/halberd craving I'll get one and pop it on top of a Home Depot pole. SBG's new budget Ryujin naginata is also looking pretty appetizing.

I paid around $400 for my dynasty forge. This was with a saya, no shaft.
I have owned 2 nihonto jumonji. One was out of polish, and one was in full polish with shirasaya(I paid around $1200) you can find a decent one in full polish for $1.5-$2k. If you're located in Europe you might be paying a lot more.
I highly recommend NOT purchasing one out of polish. It is next to impossible to find a Togishi willing to polish one outside of japan. And you will regret not having just spent the extra money on a polished piece.

Glad you're checking out LK chens catalog, I was going to suggest them but I wasn't sure you'd care for Chinese style blades. Just outta curiosity how would display the spear, if your a uni student I'd assume you've got a small living space lol. I've always avoided spears/great swords since there a pain to lug around when you move allot like I do, couldn't even keep up with my small collection of videogame figures lol

That's fair lol, If it's a spear or larger sword I'll probably ship it to my place in my hometown (out of town for uni) and set it up back at home. I actually love Chinese blades, and am currently saving for the LK Chen miao dao. It's gonna be a bonkers price to get it to Canada, but my summer job should be enough to offset it. But yeah, I have a lot of space in my hometown and will probably keep them there til uni is over and I can get a bigger place. It's annoying being away from them, but I see them every reading week and holiday so it's better than nothing.

I admit that Japanese swords don't do much for me for some reason but I have been interested in Japanese spears in the past. I'd like to get one someday but it probably won't be for a long while. Any good, informative resource recommendations about yari to get me up to snuff into in the meantime?
Also, you're going to love the miao dao. It's definitely one of my personal favorites.

Yeah, after owning some katana I don't know if I like them much. I feel like the blades are heavy-ish, and the balance doesn't agree with my hands. I felt like something that's still a sabre but bigger so I could move it more fluidly and with momentum, like a miao dao, would be more my thing, so that's what it is at the moment.
As for yari, I'm honestly not sure on what's considered good, but I've flipped through Meishi Yari Zukan and the pictures are just gorgeous. Roald Knutsen's Japanese Spears is also good from the bit I've read, however copies are expensive so if one could get a copy from a library that'd be far less of a monetary burden. If you like forms there's Masaaki Hatsumi's Sojutsu, but that's the only one I've seen. There's probably other articles and videos online, but I haven't seen many of them - and if anyone knows where to get those three free, or other stuff, it would be a big help to me as well.

there is definitely more sojutsu out there than X-kan but you probably will have a harder time finding them use metal yari. you should be able to find a lot of sojutsu enbu on youtube, but off the top of my head it's usually just wooden yari.
probably isn't that easy to find in depth text of other Koryu sojutsu since they tend to be private about that. they'll show enbu but not the core stuff.

So uh, I was actually researching boar spears when Google randomly spat out a few random yaris at me lol. Now the quality is obviously a little sketch, but if you just want something cool to hang in your room and maybe stab some water jugs on a bored weekend, can't really beat this price lol. www.etsy.com/listing/1538444495/36-beautiful-custom-handmade-d2-steel?click_key=d2589f2b2650dae6911a0116414d41b729cf1ff5%3A1538444495&click_sum=3620dc17&ref=sold_out-8&pro=1&frs=1Also found this piece, you have to find your own shaft but it looks much nicer, I might actually buy as it display piece to go with the Tachi im commissioning this year... www.etsy.com/listing/1505378225/japanese-jumonji-yari-spearhead-16-with?click_key=756259d5dd66f77d98f7d48cc2ba77d3a6d8e966%3A1505378225&click_sum=88faa09c&ref=lp_rv-1&pro=1&sef=1

i saw the first but I think just buying a Cold Steel Boar spear will satify my desire for a spear.
eeesh, those dynasty forge yari were expensive but makes sense with how complicated they are

Jumonji Yari is my favorite style as well. I have been considering getting one from Yamato Bugodu just as a display piece since it's made of alloy(similar to my iaito from them i assume), but they seem to be not accepting new orders at the moment. www.yamatobudogu.com/products/deluxe-chidori-jumonji-yari
