Sharp blades are good to have, if Shire-folk go walking, east, south, far away into dark and danger.

Any suggestions on where to get a decent sgian dubh? Man, autocorrect hates this knife spelling! Anywho, been looking a bit. There’s the usual stuff on KoA…the Windlass is all out of stock (as usual), they have some Devil’s Edge (which are affordable) and some no name brand which are more in the dirk category with 7” blades made from Pakistan Damascus. I already have a dirk and am just thinking a boot knife, but would like it to be more authentic and something made in India or Pakistan just doesn’t seem right somehow. BUT looking online there are…issues. One being most UK stores seem to carry the same overpriced tourist stuff. Same pics, same knives, most of them with cheesy bling jewels and fake resin handles. I just want something for Second, most of them come unsharpened and extremely blunt…kind of pointless for a knife, right? Speaking of pointless, even the tips are rounded!

I'm not that industrious! Nor do I have the space or tools, though it looks like a fun project. I've seen some other blanks that have shorter tangs that are just glued into a wood or stag handle. I guess for a 3.5" knife it's probably fine, but I guess I'm kinda spoiled now I'm used to swords. I have a Western W77 boot knife that's full tang with slab handles on a 4" D2 blade. It looks a lot like a sgian dubh, and I guess I could always use a Dremel and put some Celtic knots down the handle, though it's fine as is. Attachments:

I just did a quick google search and there are a lot of sgian dubh on eBay and Etsy. From your post it seems you’re in the UK. The two top searches gave me The Sgian Dubh Co and The Real Sgian Dubh Co. Both are in Scotland. Some nice looking pieces. Good luck.

Ouch! Pricey! I'm in the U.S. The ones coming from Scotland are blunt, not even a sharp tip. And like I said, they're mainly for tourists. They say made in Scotland, but they're assembled in Scotland. The blades are the usual Damascus Pakistani stuff. Might as well order one from KoA.

Don't be so quick to write off things made in Pakistan as inauthentic. The British empire used that country for hundreds of years to manufacture goods used on the island. Pakistan is even where most bagpipes are made.

The company selling the one I linked to says they are all properly sharp on their website. Sterling Silver work is going to push the price up a bit (can't have too many nice knives)
