There is a new guy out of Sarasota Florida doing custom saya and restorations. He does mostly everything by hand. He's doing one for my nihonto. Some examples of his work and the progress on mine.

From what I can tell (some of the pix are fairly dark) that's nice work, and there definitely aren't a ton of people in the US doing it. Sometimes highlighting the bare woodgrain is a great way to go.

He can do more traditional looking solid colors. These are his personal swords to his aesthetic, and why I had him do my nihonto like that. I prefer a more natural grain and something a little more unique in Japanese fittings.
