So, I just got mine, I reeally like how it feel, but the guard is loose. Can I fix this or should I get a new one? Or is this an issue I won't get around getting a different one anyways? I would have used it for backyard cutting, so I am not really happy about loose fittings. Also should this blade ring? Mine is reeally dull, maybe because of the guard, maybe other issues. I am quite unsure. It's a cheapü saber but it is sold as functional so it should be rather tight, no?
EDIT: My choice was either this, the 1796 or the Staff&Field. I need something on the lighter side. A 1796 is on it's way, but I love how the CavOff saber feels and I hate that I got another loose guard basket. I like this one a lot more than the Cutlasses I tried. Really, really hope you say I should try again and probably will have better luck. I doubt it's an easy fix, it seems there wasn't enough pressure on the grip assembly when peening.

Room between the grip and the guard? Try winding fishing line between them to fill the gap and support the guard.

You are correct--if the blade won't ring when you suspend it and rap your knuckle on the blade then there is looseness and something wrong in the grip and hilt. If that saber has a peened hilt you could try clamping the blade in a leather padded vise and tapping the peen down with a ball peen hammer. You can also try injecting some super glue or loctite down into the grip if there is a small gap around the blade where it goes into the guard.

I'll just try getting a new one for now. I was't sure if it should ring since some swords just don't ring as much.
