I was number 3 to order it! ; ) bummed that two people beat me though. I am pumped. We will see though; it is not my favorite design. I decided to do it because I have always wanted a Borderwatch, and this is the next best thing. But I sure would have liked it to be more Borderwatch-esque. Have a more curved guard. And the pommel is just wrong. I asked about the pommel, and they decided to do it that way to not infringe on copyright and intellectual rights. Fair enough but definitely a bummer. I plan to grind down the pommel to be closer to that on the Borderwatch. (Remove the fascets.) And perhaps bend the guard a bit. Hopefully then it will be close enough. But the grip is also just wrong. To me they did the Ansbach perfectly to be a Ranger, other than not having the crucial grip spacer. The whole thing is a better ranger design; the blade, guard, grip shape, and pommel! I almost got that and made a new grip for it with a ring spacer. But those little notches in the guard would have to go. Which would be a pain to do right. Can't have those on a Ranger.... That is the only reason I didn't just buy that as a Ranger. We will see soon enough!

hmm i like this visions scent stopper pommel a lot but agreed that CFs is the best looking that ive ever seen. the one stormmaster commissioned looked very odd (Bernie Sesame Street)
the Borderwatch's guard is mostly straight but with prominent quillons. with the Ranger, i'll probably dremel a notch on each side of the guard and maybe slightly under the pommel
interesting view of the ansbach but its got sharp vibes while most ranger swords feel curvy/elvish

Have you received your swords yet? How do you like them? They look really beautiful.

Even being #3, I have not received it yet. I do have a confession though... I recently talked to VA about it though and canceled my order. Well....I couldn't cancel it since it was fully paid for and too late. But no need to anyway. I just decided to not get the official Vision Ranger. I decided to change it to a bit of a custom ranger. I am getting a different blade. A shorter non-lenticular blade. I didn't realize when I jumped on it that it was going to be lenticular (flat). I knew I was going to hate that blade. I don't care how well it would cut; it was going to be too flexible for me. And too long. So they are building one for me eventually with a shorter stiffer blade. The rest will be the same. Gonna set me back some time, but it will be worth it to me. Silly me. But I'm glad I realized the blade geometry before it was too late. When you know what you like, and more importantly what you dislike, ya gotta do what you gotta do!

I definitely like my swords on the stiffer side.
What type of blade geometry is he going to make for your commission?

So, they are going to throw an Ansbach blade on mine, which is a XVIa. That should be decently stiffer than the original blade geomotry, with a nice central ridge. And about 1.5" shorter. They said they were doing that for someone else already, so I jumped on.

The ranger has really nice handling and I don't consider it to be overly floppy. But I don't think you would like the Exeter if that's an issue for you. As that one is quite a bit more flexible than the others including the ranger. The Ansbach is an excellent choice though. But it also looks and handles amazingly with its stock furniture too.

The Ansbach is great! I said right from the start; throw a ring spacer on there and get rid of those darn notches on the guard, and you have a Ranger. Those notches just ruin such an otherwise perfect sword. I debated getting it and grinding them off. But it is hard to then blend the area well enough to make it not noticeable. And then hard to add a proper ring spacer on there when the pommel is already peened on. But also....people insist the Knight isn't floppy...to me it is a wet noodle, insanely floppy. I hate it. Lol. So, the gauge for what is floppy and what isn't varies so much!
