I have been following this site and others for a couple of years, but I only bought my first sword this year. I wanted a Type XII as, to me, it epitomized my idea of the knightly arming sword, and I did not want to spend a fortune. I wanted it for display between a couple of Michael Whelan Elric prints and I preferred a blunt.
In the end, I hemmed and hawed over spending a few hundred bucks on my first sword and spent way more time researching options than is probably displayed my most people without mental disorders. That's kind of my approach when I get into any new thing...obsessive reading, learning, agonizing over a choice, etc. I wound up with a Reliks Sword of Courage (God, they need to change that cringey name), which was made by OTC. Solid, handsome.
I followed that up looking for a cheap viking era blade for giggles....wound up with a couple of Deepeekas before settling on there Gunther Type H.
Deepeeka Hersir
Deepeeka Gunther
I wound up shortly thereafter buying an Albion Crecy when it popped up in stock on KoA. Since sold to another member here.
Shortly after that I bought an antique Prussian artillery saber......and then kinda went crazy, spending like a drunken sailor on shore leave after a Pacific crossing......
