Hello all. I did a search on this forum, to find people that specialize in Nihonto restoration. That being said, I have two questions:1) I have a koshirae with handachi mountings. The koiguchi area of the saya is damaged. In some cases can it be repaired, or should a new saya be made? 2)Is there any one in the San Francisco Bay Area (or at least the West Cost) that can do traditional repairs with (I know, traditional work=expensive) "reasonable prices"? ***Saya and a new tsukaito.
Thank you Regards, Henry

Welcome. You might want to post a picture or describe the issue to be repaired in more detail. Could be an easy fix or might need a professional.
For the Ito wrap there is this thread:

I agree, it may well be an easy fix. We'd have to know what the problem is to recommend a solution though. It looks like Handachi mountings are pretty similar to regular katana mountings, but advice differs if one of the brass fittings has come off, or if there is some kind of damage to the lacquer, or if it's another problem.
