Particularly interested in display and keeping behind glass, e.g. glass cabinets
What do you use?

I looked for something with glass some time ago, but these are either waaay out of my price range or too small for my swords. I have a selfmade rack. I have been thinking of making a polycarbonate or acryl glass case around the rack, now that covid is "over" they're much cheaper than before. Hinges aren't good for the flexible PC/acryl, so only a sliding door would work and that has its own construction problems. The size of panel I need for it would cost around 100€, with all the other parts probably adding another 100€. In my mind would look a lot like this, but bigger with the rack inside. Maybe some day, but right now I have more pressing matters to work on and the swords just hang around. I have to leave them in their sheath/scabbard because of my cats, who are the reason I want a protective case.

My collection is small and I don't think will go beyond 8 to 10 select antique pieces (mainly French first empire). I'm thinking of customising this display cabinet with side glass panels for more light and having LED illumination. Of course the shelves would need to extend without the centre cabinet divider (or a wider cabinet). These I hope are customisable by the maker here in Australia... www.antiquemahogany.com.au/solid-mahogany-4-door-display-cabinet-pre-order.htmlI think the style of cabinet better suits antique swords...

That's a good idea! Easier to move around and more flexible in scope.

sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/post/801721/threadHere's a cabinet, you probably wanted to do something similar?
Can't find the right display I meant. Looks like a big picture with 4 or 5 sabers hanging in it. Bou you probably coud get a carpenter to make something personalized for you for 1000-1500$

The problem in removing the center partition is that this piece looks wide enough and heavy enough that it needs the center vertical for support to keep it from sagging. At least the bottom section will still need to be divided.

A few years back I picked up 2 specimen cabinets (Ottawa University) at auction. They function quite well as sword cabinets. Locking doors are a bonus to keep little paws from getting too close to sharp and pointy things.

Sharp blades are good to have, if Shire-folk go walking, east, south, far away into dark and danger.

For daggers and smaller short swords, I have a glass top coffee table and just secured a wood laminate board underneath and expoxied a latch on the top so I can get to them if I want to. Attachments:
