I got Rusty cleaned up a bit, re profiled the edge and a slight and modest polish, rebuilt the original saya (could not save the lacquer of course). Rusty is a signed katana that was basically found in the desert of New Mexico in a condemned house to be bulldozed. Fujiwara Kanefusa 23 generation, Kato Koichi, born 1900, is the swordsmith. Rusty I suspect is Showato Gunto, 99 percent sure. Rusty Shows the "Kanefusa Midare" quite well. Rusty did not have his original Tsuka or Tsuba. I did a little work and found both from that time period, WW2. So while not the original, to Rusty, still represents the time. I did my best not knowing a thing about Japanese Katana's, but I am happy with the results. photos.app.goo.gl/HLGN22r8k5EpNaTh8

Nice work, man! Really impressed how quickly you got it all together. What did you use to finish up the saya?

the saya is magnolia and I used a fairly dark oak stain then some poly. I really lacked the skill with lacquer and got lucky with the stain and poly.
