It came up in another thread, but I want to make my opinion obvious not hidden on page x on some buried thread. I think resurrecting old threads should be ENCOURAGED. (Unless obviously it went pear shaped - in which case it would be locked anyway) There's new members with new points of view. Stopping them is like saying we don't want your point of view. Like we had our say before you were here and thats all there is to it. I don't understand why it's frowned upon in some forums, unless they were arguments, and it's like my mum used to say when I was a kid: "coz I said so. end of discussion" Anyway, I think the door should always be open for new views on already discussed topics. So we should put in the rules which one reads before participating that we are happy to accept thread resurrections. Besides, it proves they are using the search function coz we all know how hoighty some people get about starting new threads on topics which have been done. And if you can't start repeat threads, and you can't resurrect old ones, then how are new members supposed to get involved on the myriad of topics already done? That doesn't make sense. Cheers ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

No problem here either. Necromance away! ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I've actually ended up reading things of great interest to me on various forums that I'd missed previously or were before my time, all because somebody brought it back up. ![8-)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

I think a bit of thread necromancy is not bad - however, resurrecting dozens of thread at a time is a wee bit much Everything in moderation... including moderation.

As someone patrolling the necromacy, it can be good or bad as mentioned. It is more an occasion of general public opinion regarding really old threads. Some will get several threads into what amounts to trolling before someone mentions "hey, that thread is x years old" There are threads that have good value to add something. Some do so without much to say aside from bringing something up for attention's value.
As something else that I archive at times is trying to assemble information in a coherent manner. If there are an infinite number of threads that could suit fewer threads, it can be beneficial. New threads started are certainly valid in and of themselves. Links to more similar threads can be very beneficial without necessarily bringing up threads that don't have a lot of context from many years ago (responding to some long gone in quoting the dead).
It is often one of those moments that depend on the circumstance. What I discourage more is folk telling someone without offering more than just the search function and not at least trying to answer a bit of the subject. I am actually bad about that with the sharpening and sword care topics.
I am slow on the archival lately but did put together both document and links for British 1796 infantry, heavy cavalry and light cavalry information (actually ongoing). Some may find it of use sometime. Such can put a lot of information in one place instead of having to search them out. SBG could be a similar endeavor. the reviews here are a similar type of thing.
Cheers
Hotspur; there are a lot of threads even just on this venue

I'm all for reviving old thread, especially if they're one's I started. Also new threads on old subjects is cool with me. How about we just act like free people and let others do likewise.

actually it's threadnomancy and the only time I disagree with it is if it doesn't add anything new to the thread, if it is just something that bumps the thread rather than adds to it that is when I have a problem with it.

What about threads that never got a answer in the first place? The person that started the thread maybe still wants to know more, but if a new member is not allowed to add his information... a forum is a place to achieve "wisdom" so let us be open to new posts on old threads. Therefore: long live the undead!

I have read some of the undead threads and enjoyed them. For the most part, the resurrecting replies have been positive contributions.
I think it is a good thing, but I was surprised to see so many at once.

In regards to the OP, it's not that it's bad or wrong just annoying when you're watching a few threads and then some new guy joins and buries those thread by posting in threads from months ago, I mean when I came on here every post on the first page had ronin as the last post.
