You ground off the shinogi/shinogi-ji??? Yes, the shinogi on this blade is not noticeable on its own, the nice thing about it is that it's folded and forged 45 carbon steel, that's why it can be sharpened for hada. next time try to burn the nie out first!

It's interesting, but I think you ruined the blade. You can see the core metal showing through on a large portion of it. It does look like it was a nihonto, the polishing job is not bad. Personally I think it's better to leave a little rust. I also think it's better to preserve the original geometry if at all possible, that's a bit of respect to the original smith.

The initial blade looks like a low quality overseas reproduction.
As for the patterns in the latter photos... were they really in the initial blade?
