The purpose of this posting is to express how pleased I am with Kult of Athena and Valiant Armoury.
Based on “Ianflaer’s” September 24 review of the V.A. Custom Tuned ATrim Practical Arming Sword, my wife purchased one from Kult of Athena for my birthday. The sword was swiftly delivered. I found it better than I expected, except for the pommel nut.
In “Shootermike’s” April 14 review of the non-custom version, he pointed out the following: “The biggest difference (between the V.A. version and the Atrim. version) is the pommel nut. It's built just like ATrim pommel nuts, except instead of being fitted for a 5mm hexhead wrench it is slotted for a large flathead screwdriver.”
On the sword I received, the screwdriver slots on the nut had been damaged and the nut appeared to be cross threaded onto the threads of the tang. Also, the nut didn’t fit flush with the pommel but protruded out about the distance of the width of a quarter.
I decided to call Kult of Athena, and spoke with Ryan. He was very courteous and helpful. Because I wanted this model of sword, he took a few days to investigate whether there were others available. When he learned that there were no others available, he offered to refund the purchase price. He also confirmed that if I wanted to try and remove and replace the nut his warranty would still be valid, even if some additional damage was done in the process. Therefore, I planned to try.
First, though, I emailed Valiant Armoury to see if I could buy a couple of replacement nuts. I was surprised when I received a telephone call from Sonny Suttles, the owner of Valiant Armoury, himself.
He suggested that I send the sword back to him for repair. I did, and then he called me again. This time, he offered, at no charge, to send the pommel to Angus Trim to have the hole in the top of the pommel somewhat deepened. Then, when it was returned to him, he would install a hexhead nut . All at no cost to me.
Yesterday the sword arrived. And the modifications have been done perfectly. It is a beautiful sword.
The treatment I received from Kult of Athena and from Valiant Armoury was all I could ever want. I highly recommend doing business with Kult of Athena and Valiant Armoury. They are both outstanding companies run by great individuals.
Also, during this process, I communicated with Ianflaer by PMs. His suggestions helped me a lot. It shows the value of being a member of this forum. and I wish to thank him for his ideas and support.
