I designed this weapon as a long sword. The blade blank was produced by Hanwei forge using 5160 mar quenched spring steel. I hand etched my original artwork onto both sides of the blade. I created the guard from solid brass and etched in the details for the shape of dragon’s wings as well as the eye of the dragon in the very center. I set a cubic zirconia into the guard as the center of the dragon’s eye. The spacer above the guard, the mid-handle spacer, and the top of the handle spacer are all ground from solid brass. The two-piece wooden handle is carved from African Blackwood. The pommel was carved from brass in the shape of a dragon’s egg and then etched to give the appearance of being held in place by four metal bands with a decorative cap. The guard and the pommel were treated with a patina to give shading to the inside of the dragon’s wings and the dragon egg. There are hardened steel lineup pins throughout the handle design. The end of the full tang blade has been threaded and the pommel tapped to complete the sword’s takedown design. Specifications: Blade length: 35.5 inches Overall length: 47.5 inches Hand grip length: 9.5 inches Blade width at widest point: 2.25 inches Guard width: 8.25 inches Weight: 3 pounds, 5.95 ounces Balance point: 4 inches in front of the guard Shawn Guildofthegildedhilt.com
