Here’s a preview/test fit of my current project. Blade is a custom tamahagane Jkoo I’ve reviewed before that still needs to be repolished. The habaki is the original one, repolished by myself and patinated along with two custom brass seppa using Jim Kelso’s iron patina recipe. They got a nice dark vintage brass colour. The fuchi/kashira are antiques, I believe native copper, that I repolished and repatinated using Ford Hallam’s Niage/Rokusho technique (you can access the video if you support him on Patreon). My polishing still needs work, but I’ve already repolished and repatinated them once! The tsuba is an antique iron one that I repolished using bone and magnolia charcoal. Authentic samegawa, though I cut it a bit short (beginner mistake!). It has a nice emperor node though. The tsuka is hand carved, meant to be imogata, but with some subtle curves (still have to refine the shape and reposition the samegawa on it). I wasn’t sure everything would go together, but I’m happy with how it’s turning out. It’s not as tight as I want it, still have to figure out how to go about that. Maybe once I glue the fuchi on? It gets a lot better if I tap the end on the ground, and in the saya it looks tight. So lots of work left to do (and always more possible), but I’m happy at least with the colours. Somehow they all go together, even though they are all different. It's definitely not perfect, but I've learned a lot in the process! Last picture is the silk ito I plan to use, haven't picked out the menuki yet.
