this was also part of the find in New Mexico desert. I assume it is a Tanto but expect fake. There are no inscriptions on the blade. I suspect a factory stamped blade for ww2 but the hole for the menuki is not drilled and is tapered....hmmmmmm photos.app.goo.gl/1ZVUDUqDoyYgsqmb6

Actually looks authentic as well. The geometry is good, and it has a proper yamagane habaki. It is, however also in really bad shape! The handle looks legit, appropriately carved, and covered with rice paper, presumably for the samegawa that is now gone. It had a slot for the kozuka in the saya, which is now broken beyond repair.
A lot of authentic blades were made without a signature. Basically anything they made but didn't think was likely to attract attention. We call that mumei. It's actually a bit more likely to be authentic if it has no signature. The fakers never let it go without one!
