What?! Exactly! While not my favorite sword in the movies, UC seems to be releasing a "battle-ready" version of the Herugrim sword! This is the sword King Theoden had.
Someone posted it in one of the LOTR Facebook groups, so I had to try to look it up. And it is indeed listed on the official UC page! While not for sale yet, I think this is pretty awesome and moving in the right direction of what many of us have been hoping for and asking of UC, that of replicating LOTR swords in fully functional versions. We know they can do it. They just have to reach out to the right forges/smiths.
It says it will have a tempered high carbon blade, solid brass guard and pommel, with a proper real tang peened over the pommel! AND a leather over wood grip?! All the major things we need to see to consider this a functional sword.
This is most exciting. So I wanted to throw it out here and see if anyone knows anything more about it, and if not, well now you at least know it is in the works! Similarly they are still finalizing the Museum Collection Anduril with the high carbon blade (not fully functional, but still supposed to be much better than any of the other versions and even have a hollow-ground blade!), and the allegedly FULLY functional high-carbon Rohan War Axe! THAT is super exciting; it is definitely going to become my new main chopping axe.
I think it is super cool that they seem to be experimenting more and more with the idea of "functional" LOTR replicas.
I AM surprised our very own UC Rep, Drew Hall has not really mentioned the functional Theoden sword that I have seen anywhere. I forget if he is on this forum or just the facebook group, where I love to see him chime in with his inside knowledge of he projects.
Anyway, it was given the number "UC3624". That will help you all look out for it.
And the axe was given the number "UC3589".
Anduril MC will be "UC3516".
Here is a picture they have posted for Herugrim, which is most likely just the normal version of the sword for now. And a picture of the Rohan War axe. THAT should be the real thing because I don't believe they ever made a non-carbon steel version, so this will be the only one. And the MC Anduril. But you can't really see any of the details in it. The actual pictures I have seen of it are looking great.
Very cool.
Who is going to need a function Herugrim?! ; )
