Has anyone ever taken the handle off of a Hanwei Tori Tanto before? I would like to put a better polish on my, but am hesitant to mess with the handle too much after I ruined a previous one trying to clean the samegawa.
I imagine there is a mekugi that the menuki are pushed into, but it could also be under the samegawa wrap. I suppose the handle could be apoxyed on as well, but I find that somewhat unlikely for Hanwei.
Any info would be appreciated.

Keep looking, the pin will be there somewhere. Its just hidden under the ito wrap.

I think it is under the menuki. I have an old Wave tanto from Bugei and the pins are under the menuki. With this wave tanto also the rayskin is carved out where the menuki fit in. The menuki are glued to the wood under the menuki.
