Sharp blades are good to have, if Shire-folk go walking, east, south, far away into dark and danger.

I think what we must all do is have those little sword shaped toothpicks to serve with hors d'ourves when guests come over. It'll tie the whole place together. ...or 100% cement that we're nuts. I remember being fascinated with those; my brother and I took used ones (from family parties) back home to play with "action figures". My love of complex hilts began there.

Just reminded me... When I was visiting Berlin for a history class (2011, I think?) me and some people from the class went to this restaurant for dinner and one of them ordered a kebab plate. When they brought out the meals the kebab skewers were... swords!!! Never seen skewers like them before or since. They were sabers but I couldn't tell you what they were based on. Maybe a Blucher saber... maybe? To this day I regret not stealing them that night.

Guess we're going off topic, but what the heck?! I think this was my Stormbringer. I seem to remember breaking off the guard and painting red enamel runes down the blade. Sucked the soul of many an olive (kidding of course, not a lot of martini drinking at 12 years old). Interesting what's available these days... If there was an Amazon back in 1977, I for sure would have had a set of those fancy ones! Though I wonder if they even made them back then. The whole sword reproduction market explosion is a relatively recent thing. Just the fact an Anduril is in there shows it's at least as old as the LotR movies, which is about when it really started taking off. I started collecting in late high school. I got a p.o.s. El Cid wallhanger, but then my dad got me a couple Horstmann/Ames antiques which i still love. But that was it until just a couple years ago for me. Back in the 70s unless you collected antiques you really only had wallhangers. Now we have a huge variety of choices in different price ranges. Point being, collecting functional swords wasn't really even possible as a source for insanity until somewhat recently. What I also find it interesting is I've questioned and posted in the different LotR collectors groups looking for others that prefer functionality but most just want blunt stainless overpriced rat tail ranged junk. That's what drive me to this forum in the first place. I just wonder why more people don't do the same and why they think it's weird to want a sharp functional actual weapon? Kids like their toys, I get it. But adults... why play pretend? Ok, it's still pretend on a certain level, but it's a historical romanticized version of it. I'm learning a lot as I go. Attachments:

Only if you do a wall mount display for them. And I loved those as a kid! I had one big one that was all black that was my Stormbringer! So... Just found the panorama setting on my camera. This is most of them. Sane or insane? tinypic.host/image/IMG-20231201-1222215182.XMZl4Speaking completely out of my but here as I'm not the best interior designer...I think the only thing that'd make you look too weird is your table being full of blades. I think you could actually cover more of the walls in strategic patterns and it'd look better. Not bad though! Pretty organized otherwise!

Those Weta runs of the LotR swords did/do sell very quickly. So there's definitely a market, however small.

When I looked at the picture I thought nothing of it until I saw the coffee table. That is the only thing I thought that stood out as a negative. Now why it struck me as a negative I am not sure. Otherwise I liked it.
Most of my collection is in my safe. The spears and Dane axes won't fit lol.

A buddy and my girlfriend told me the same thing, maybe just too cluttered? I moved the katanas and hung the jian so everything is just flat now. Better? Do I have the SBG Better Housekeeping seal of approval? I think my only other option is to make a shadowbox hanging display, but it'd have to be pretty big to encompass all of them. Attachments:

I agree, why should I pay 400€ for a wallhanger when I can get something functional for the same price or a bit more?
On the other hand a wallhanger is legal almost everywhere while a "battle ready" sword is not. This is why there is also a big market for decoration firearms that cost the same as a real weapon would.
I always wanted a sword, but if I got one, I wanted to be able to use it as well. Until 15 years ago it was almost impossible to get something like that. Back then many things said they were "usable" but just were garbage. Back then, stainless movie repros was all you could get besides antique sabers. Easier to say nowdays "you could just get something real". Also there just isn't any maintenance for stainless, which is good when you only look at the thing once in a while and the stainless swords polish up more, it looks different to carbon steel which some people seem to prefer.

Do I have the SBG Better Housekeeping seal of approval? I think my only other option is to make a shadowbox hanging display, but it'd have to be pretty big to encompass all of them. Being eccentric, or interested in historical weaponry, is not "crazy". Indeed some people specialize in that and do so even at a scholarly level. Plenty of real nut jobs could make fine use of a kitchen knife to harm someone. The first thing many a home Burglar will do is go for the kitchen and find a nice knife, in your case you have provided a ready made armory for anyone to grab, but that is a personal choice. ( keeping in mind your space limitations).
That being said, a coffee table is for drinks, and such, unless you can get a second piece of tempered glass to go over those items, they look "ready to use" instead of an interesting artifact to admire. Having the coffee table items under glass, and in their sheaths (?), may also "calm the waters" if you expect guests.
If you could imagine how a museum would display each piece on the walls, with a little description or what not ( era, culture, etc.) then it might be more "acceptable" to to the average person. That you have a GF who is proven not to be a hoplophobe* under such conditions speaks well of her, and I would consider her a keeper.
*Hoplophobe / Hoplophobia - a term used by the late Col. Jeff Cooper to describe people with a phobia of weapons in general.

Yeah, she's a keeper. She likes and approves of the latest change. She also brought me a Christmas tree to display, complete with swords and knights in armor. Very cool!

I don't display, and don't let ppl come. Come to think about it, do you let people handle your loaded guns that are not locked and put on the wall everywhere, easy to access and shoot randomly? I certainly don't. Thus, I don't display, and I don't let people even come close.

I bet it depends a lot on where you live. If you live in UK for example, or any place where the media make the people fear everything you could use ad a weapon, you shold probably be very careful with new people.
I know, I like to be with people who are pretty similar to me, but even people who aren't interested in firearms will want to see them when they get to know you own one. OTF knives are a bit different, people will look at you funny when you pull it out, but give it to them and they won't stop playing with it. Firearms are more ubiquitous and therefore a bit less shock value here, also you need to keep them safe, they can't just hang on the wall.
But honestly, if I let you in my home, you better know me enough to not be shocked by blades being littered everywhere.

I got a nice cut below my eye due to a Jerk who asked to see a knife, then grabbed the spine of the Ontario Marine Raider Bowie while it was in my hand, and then let go suddenly, it hit back at my face and cut to the bone. Thankfully it was the 90's and we had internet and I discovered Kelo Cote (silicone Gel for scars) in a tube...I went with no stitches, and not much scar ( barely visible). Since I don't learn easy, or I forget my life lessons, a few years ago, I handed over a Gladius to a neighbor to look at...who thought it was funny to try and stab me in the scrotum /groin...if I did not move back as quick as I did I would have had a second circumcision ( he and his workers thought it was funny). I guess I have myself to blame for Assuming people are "Normal" in these times...
Now I would never, ever hand over a blade to look at, or take anything sharp out of the sheath just because they request a look see, unless I know them very well.

"Yeah, she's a keeper. She likes and approves of the latest change."
Funny thing is on my first date with my future wife she saw my DMT sharpener on the key chain, asked what it was for, then asked to see my knife...that's when you "know" about her potential. We were engaged by the 3rd date and married a few months later. That was over 17 years ago, and 4 kids later...
Another piece of advice I was told years ago. The eyes are the gateway to the soul. Look deeply into her eyes, that is what you will be living with when you are both older, if her essence is pleasing to you ( all physicality aside) then you have found a soul mate.

Exactly why I don't let ppl come close to my swords anymore. I've seen ppl who failed to obey the only instructions I've given them, which was NOT TO TOUCH THE BLADE, or NOT CUT AT THINGS, or NOT KNOCK IT DOWN!
I don't believe in people anymore.

I have a few blunt swords, historical types of which I couldn't get a sharpie. If someone really wants to handle a sword he can get one of theese.
