Welcome.
You want something thin but durable. Also it should be a bit grippy, not too smooth. Goat leather works well, I have also heard of thin pig being used. I like the feeling of the goat leather best (at least from the leathers I have bought). Rayskin/Shagreen is also a good material to use (though I have no experience with it, never had access to a piece).

Goatskin is thin inexpensive,
I am also fascinated by the cord wrapping historically used under the leather or by itself.
Nice looking sword, love the beefy Tang!

crazyjons has a point. I have begun cord wrapping a few things lately, it's much easier to get a nice looking outcome than with leather. Leather needs more know how and skill (also depending how far you want to go some special tools and ingredients like sealants or colourings are needed), or it just won't look nice. In short cord wraps are easy, cheap and fast. Leather is a bit more finnicky and not as cheap.

Jon The wet linen I used stick to wood by white glue. It will shrink when be dry and give wood more strength. When it stabilizes i will soak it with nut lacquer and solidify it into a whole ultimately.

Thx~ and another question is, where should the leather stitching be placed?front or side? Normally on the side, in line with the edge on one side. You need to takecare that it doesn't get uncomfortable. If you pull the leather together too much you will always feel the stitches.
