Ok...this is my first post here and without the image of the sword in question, which I have, the post itself isn't going to work. As I want to know if this is an actual Roman Spartha. As the sword came into my possession with a rather old, rusty and battered Roman soldiers helmet. The sword was in better condition, but still needed plenty of tlc. Which I have given it for the past two years. Still not finished refurbishing it, as the steel the blade is made from is almost impossibly hard. And I make knives as a hobby, so I know about metals. But the steel this sword is made from is unlike anything else I have ever worked on or come across. Hence the reason for this post...or even joining the group itself. I just can't find out anything about this sword. And I'm at the point where radiocarbon dating of the sword itself is a real good idea.
Anyways.... I want to add a pic of the sword itself, but can't see any icon for an attachment. So I'll start the thread and maybe someone can give me a heads up on how the hell to add an image!
Oh....the sword itself is a full tang...but what I'm calling a Heavy Duty Full Tang. Meaning it's the same width as the handle/grip. Not just a spine inside a handle. And it's around 6mm thick. Like I said, this is a HD full tang ...lol
And the sword itself is heavy. Really heavy. And is maybe the heaviest sword I've ever handled, including those huge wannabe Lord of the Rings stainless steel rubbish. And considering it's only 88cm total length(blade length 68cm) I can't figure out where all the weight is coming from. Beginning to think it's made from depleted uranium...lol.
Anyways... anyone's thoughts or opinion is welcome.
