I recently emailed the guys at JWhotsteel Forge checking up on how my kat is coming along. I am more than excited. Their customer service has been great so far, answering any and all questions within a day.
In my email I asked how the sword was coming along. They replied that it has been forged, quenched and they are working on the details now. They also said from the quenching results, it will be a great blade and they think it will have a beautiful hamon. They are going to do polishing and sharpening soon and they will send me photos in a week or so.
I can't wait ;D I'll post the photos when I get them.

How exiting this is! Almost like waiting for a new baby to be born. I second the request for pics when you get it. May I ask how much this new "baby" cost?

Thanks for the play by play... JW is one of my "wish list" companies that i want to buy something from in the future. Just don't have the cash until next year though.

JW do some nice swords. Hamons are rather faint, but that could be thanks to the mirror polish. One thing i HATE about their stuff is the quality of everything other than the blade itself. The habaki is fine, as long as you don't mind it's not a perfect fit and that it's jammed on ( you have to literally hammer it off the tang ).
Don't get me wrong, it's all... ok, as long as you're going to use it for backyard cutting only, but could be so much better. Let's say that the blade is several times better than everything else.
Myself, once i'll have the time, i'm going to replace everything on mine.
I'd say the best deal on their swords is to get them to make a real yokote. It's not that expensive and the yokote is truly nice.

Still the sword will be fine for my backyard cutting, and eventually when I have the money and funds I will refit it. By my raw will have priority over this. Tis the season for sure.

Not exactly true. Mine is something i'd consider a small o-kissaki with a real yokote. Originally they told me that they can't do it ( they tried, but the yokote turned out only slightly better than cosmetic ), however after receiving the sword and measuring the tip it turned out bigger than your average chuu-kissaki.

I know the sword you have and it is a beauty But it seemed more of a special case where they had to make up for a slip up so you got extremely lucky. I asked them and they said that it wasn't normal for them to do an o-kissaki with a yokote, and it didn't bother me so much so I didn't mind.

It's hard to find kissaki with real yokote that are larger than chuu They should do the larger ones for 50$ me think
