Hello all.
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for custom makers who make good cup hilt rapiers.
I’ve loved this sword type since I was a kid - Musketeer movies and all - and just wondered if anyone had any recent experience with particular makers.
I’ve a pretty healthy budget, so really would like something special.
Thanks

I would suggest either Arms & Armor or Darkwood Armory as 2 choices for excellent makers of cup hilt rapiers. Arms & ArmorDarkwood Armory

They've only been making euro swords for a year and each model has been very will received. I believe the owner has been working with museum collectors to get historical specimens to design from.

lkchensword.com/tizona-spanish-rapierVery new offering, the only real cup hilt they got so far, so no reviews. Their swords are pretty good, and their customer support is stellar. In all they only have 3 rapiers right now, and the Munich Town Sword which is heavier and more built towards cutting than the rapiers. You can get most of them dull for training as well and the steel they use is very tough, but it is quite succeptible to rust.

I have a Vladimir Cervenka cup/bell hilted rapier. I love the workmanship and his wire work on the grip is really outstanding.

It also depends on whether you are looking for a sharp sword or a blunt for fencing/HEMA, etc. There are a lot more options for HEMA in this design than for sharps. Darkwood, for instance, primarily does blunts, tho I think they can do sharps as a special order. The LK Chen mentioned above is the only high-quality sharp cup-hilt currently on the production market that I'm aware of. I had their Saxony swept-hilt and it's excellent. I'll be ordering the cup hilt when I get my tax refund.

What was the problem with the Saxony?
LK Chen can make blunt swords on request, but I do not know if these edges would be HEMA usable or something like the sub millimeter Windlass blunts which are already a bit too dangerous.

What was the problem with the Saxony? OMG, I meant "excellent" not "excrement"! Stupid autocorrect! It's EXCELLENT.
