Oh no. I'm conflicted. I love Khyber knives, and have been wanting a decent modern replica for years. Windlass offered a "charay" for a short time, but it wasn't quite right. Deepeeka has an offering, but it's not as good as the Windlass was. This looks pretty good, if very simple. I don't really like the idea of ABS handles. I'm also a bit worried about how big the handle is. One of the biggest gripes about the Windlass was the handle was far too large, and this one looks pretty big, too. Also, it's Cold Steel, and I don't like Cold Steel in general. Edit: The more I look at it, this blade has pretty much all of the same problems the Windlass had. Too thick, T-section is wrong, and the handle is very likely too large. I would be convinced this was the same, exact blade used for the Windlass, but if I recall, it was 24" and this one is only 20". But if Cold Steel is selling it for only $300, other retailers might have it closer to $250 or less... I'm also not liking how flat the handle is.

I agree with Random. Also, the curvature of the tip looks off to me. Not necessarily bad, but off for the type. I suspect this example won’t handle like my antique.
That said, someone should buy it and report back.

That said, someone should buy it and report back. Oh yeah, I forgot to whine about the tip. Windlass' Charay had the same lines, which also put me off.
Going on what little we have for size and weight, it's not far off from my smallest, which is just shy of 25" overall (without scabbard) with a 20" blade, weighing about 29oz in scabbard and 19oz by itself. Depending on how Cold Steel weighs its products, my only concern is balance. I recall the PoB on the Windlass was about one inch off the hilt, which was far too close. Mine balances at 4.5".
If I have any kind of financial capacity in the near future, I might pick this up for a compare/contrast with my antiques, like I wanted to do with the Windlass before it was discontinued. Especially if I can find it under $250.

At least it's not the usual 1055 they normally use, I hate it for swords.
randomnobody, what do you mean by the handle being too big, as in length or circumference? Also, I too am geting weird feeling of mismatch looking at it. This could be just the white sword on a slightly whiter background for me... The Windlass was ~22" and ~2,5lbs, so the CS is quite a bit lighter. I am not sold on Cold Steel either, though their budget stuff is servicable. Good for slaughtering platns at least. Only CS sword I have is the MAA Arming, and it is my least favourite blade. I was contemplating getting one of the longer swords, but their 1055 always turned me away. Does anybody know, if the 1055 swords are tempered differently than the machetes?

I suspect Random means the grip is too flat and wide from front to back. Originals and similar swords/daggers from the region have thicker grips that are thinner-looking in profile. It makes sense that Cold Steel would opt to do it this way as folks who are used to more modern, western grip preferences might be put off by the proper grip section for these weapons.

In reference to the discontinued Windlass Charay, if memory serves the whole handle was something like 7" long and, while I don't remember numbers, very, very thick. I'm afraid the Cold Steel offering will be almost as long, and it just looks incredibly wide, though somewhat thin. Seems like it would be uncomfortable to hold. For comparison, here's my smallest. Photos are old because I'm too lazy to take new photos.
