Well my custom kashira finally arrived from Sam Salvati! You might remember that I commissioned a kashira from him for my Rawblade. I wanted one of a particular style that I could not find anywhere...so I had to go the custom route. And am I glad I did! It took several weeks, but it was worth it. Here is a picture that Sam sent me of the finished product. This is what it looked like when it arrived to me: I immediately patinated it using an FeCl etch. I wrapped it in a soaked paper towel overnight, and it worked brilliantly! Notice the wavy engraving on the end of the kashira. While it is an interesting and pleasing design, it is actually Sam Salvati's "SS" signature (or mei, if you will). Cool! Looks like my patination job couldn't have worked out more perfectly! Now the kashira matches my antique tsuba and fuchi almost flawlessly! I can't wait to fit out my Rawblade Sorrells katana with this one of a kind hybrid [antique/custom] set: Thanks Sam!!!

question, how is that kashira going to work with an open hole like that and how much did it cost you, I may need to do this myself.

The kashira is going to be permanently attached to the tsuka in a certain way, kinda like a handachi kashira. Hard to explain, but I know exactly what I am going to do.
Regarding price, that is always up to the maker. But I don't think that Sam is planning on taking commissions atm.

Glad you like it! The patination came out fantastic, the set looks great! I am honored it will adorn a blade the quality of Walter's, along with a tsuka design as good as your own Andrew. Hang onto it, it is one of a kind. Price is different for everyone, also I hardly make anything for anyone else anymore if at all, under special circumstances only.

Looks incredible, and Sam's signature really spices it up. Can't wait to see it all on the blade.

I like the "mei", and am looking forward to seeing them all mounted up.
