Made in 2019. Never used. Customised to be heavy/thick for its length.(More images: imgur.com/a/ooAXutH)
Customisation was done as per below:
Blade construction – variation of their ‘Honsanmai’ lamination:
- Spine 1045 steel non-folded
- Edge: T10 steel non-folded
- Sides: folded 1060 steel, specially requested to be folded 13 times as opposed to the usual mass-produced 10, to make the folded pattern/jigane more realistic/subtle/fine
- (This custom construction was a large part of the quoted cost for producing this custom sword)
Hamon – Midare
Polishing – JKOO’s hazuya polish option
Blade length – 71.4cm
Tsuka length – 27.3cm
Curvature – 1.8cm
Motohaba to sakihaba – 3.2 to 2.4cm
Kasane/thickness – 7mm to 5mm
Sword only weight – 1258g
Balance point – 15.0cm from the tsuba
Mei on tang – Name of smith and year of production in the Japanese calendar, only.
Tsuka fittings – Full wrap of genuine white samegawa, full use of hishigami, tsuka-ito is brown silk imported from Tozando. Habaki and seppa are plain brass. Fuchi, kashira and tsuba are plain iron, with a simulated subtle patina on them. Menuki are blackened brass dragon motifs. 2 bamboo mekugi.
Saya fittings – Black matte, Koiguchi/kurigata/kojiri are blackened horn. Sageo is brown cord.
Flaws: As indicated on the red circle on the diagram, the spine ridge momentarily deviates 1mm to the right from the center of the spine at around 50cm down the blade, for around 5cm. Blade itself is completely straight. Saya is slightly bent (not visibly) and causes slight tension at the last 5cm of insertion. Does not at all affect using the thumb to initiate a draw.
Sword has been disassembled once for maintenance (mainly to remove the wood/metal filing debris from the tsuka) and has been put back together. Everything fits super snugly, no glue used, and no shaking/rattling whatsoever.
Ships from Australia with standard post tracked, asking 500USD shipping and PP fee included (660AUD if within Australia). Payment via PayPal G&S. Buyer takes responsibility in ensuring they can legally import swords where they live.
