Have been looking at this recently; anyone have any experience with the same? Noted that “….blade is forged and folded from a mixture of T10 and 1055 steels”; curious how that performs/wears versus the Swedish K120c steel used in the higher Bugei offerings.
Thank you in advance for any input/information.

these seem pretty new as I don't remember seeing them the last time I looked (a month ago or so)? look at the weights of these models. they are definitely on the lighter side and that is without bo-hi, especially for 28-30" nagasa www.bladeforums.com/threads/k120c-carbon-content.1214180/ Carbon 1.0% Silicon .2% Mang .3%. That is pretty much like W1 also. K120C doesn't have as many trace elements as T10 but that likely just homogenizes the carbon composition? likely cheaper than having a batch of K120C smelted as well.

Thank you for posting about this, I have had it in and out of my online shopping cart for a bit, but Leaning to just get one of the Dragonfly seconds due to the steel. Decisions Decisions...

Dragonfly's are nice. i might go with the 5160 unless you had to have a folded blade
really wonder what the flaws for seconds would be.

I am curious about the Dragonfly seconds as well. From my experience with things other than swords, my luck went fairly well, but I do like the furniture on the Armourer's sword as well as the blade.

Fwiw I bought a peace kat seconds a ways back and ended up sending it back. There was openings in the steel and a hammered on fuchi that were a bit much for an $1100 blade. I've had 6 or 7 total bugei kats though over the years and the rest have been great blades. They all have had great heat treats. If they have a seconds you are interested in they should send you pictures.

So, as I was getting ready to purchase the Armourer's Katana, I talked with guys at Bugei and they posed this question to me. Do I want a display piece or one that I can train with ? cause they consider the Dragonfly as more a work horse than the Armourer's. For a company that could have made an extra $360 off me but chose to be honest with me, and I DID receive the Dragonfly seconds Katana and I can say that it has met and exceeded my expectations, plus kudos to them for having the integrity to be honest with me.
I MAY STILL get the Armourer's Katana later on for display purposes and add it to the collection but I am completely satisfied with my final decision and purchase...
Take care Friends

interesting. did you get the names of who is handling their customer service?
almost sounds like the good ole days.
did you figure out what is wrong with it to make it a "seconds?"

I will snap a pic or two, but really it was nothing but a minor scratch on it but nothing that bothers me. I am Definitely Happy with this purchase...
