Hello! I'm a new member in this forum and here is my first post. I have a old rapier sword and I was wondering if anyone can help me and give me some info about it? What time period was this made and for what use? Thank you in advance! Best regards Stent Attachments:

It looks like an olympic fencing saber to me. No other stamps or markings on the other side of the Solingen writing? What does the blade cross section look like?

2 more questions: Is the blade dull? It looks like the tip might have been sharp, but the part close to the hilt looks dull. How long is the blade?
I hope someone else can chime in since I am not very versed in sabers an rapiers. The grip says sport fencing to me, and mid 20th century. Though if it is sharp it could be a side sword or a mensur saber, but as I said, very little experience. But I need to say, Solingen produced so many sword blades and sent these to so many countries that it is very hard to give specifics unless someone has seen a similar sword and knows its history, if that makes any sense.

Yes, that was my thought as well if it was sharp, since they mostly used tip cuts for it. It looks too modern to have been carried as side sword to me. So it might actually be a mensur sword since they would have been sharp at the tip and not had the weird olympic v cross section but still an sporterized grip. It also looks as if it has defensive dents a bit above the guard. Everything looks like it to me.
If it is a mensur Schläger it isn't one of the elaborate ones unfortunately, so it won't fetch more than 200$/€. Unless you find someone who REALLY needs one.
