I’ll agree with you to some extent. The blade does feel like a steel bar. But does the original? It does on the P1908. The grip is squared. As for being too large, that will depend on one’s hand. Keeping in mind that Windlass’ version is a repro and repros have a reputation of having off measurements. With what few measurements that I can find of the original Windlass isn’t too far off, close enough for government work anyway. Keep in mind the original measurements are from the drawing board, mine are actual. Original Windlass OAL: 41.5” 41.75” Blade: 35.25” 35” Blade width: 1.175” 1.175” Blade thickness: .298” .298-.200” (1” from tip) From www.springfieldedge.com/saber_m-1913.html As for the grip here is an original compared to mine: That’s the best I could do. Photo of original hilt is by Cruacious on reddit. Did you scramble your repro blade width measurement? That's a massive difference.

Yeah, I got a couple of numbers superimposed. The width of the repro and original are the same and have corrected. Thanks.

FWIW, here's a thread discussing M1913's and their contemporaries, with good photos, from the ethno forum.
Here's an example of the officer's chromed variant, preserved on Stewarts site, that sold for $495.00.
There's also a Buy It Now for an early (1914) Springfield Armory standard type, with field wear, some rust damage, and no scabbard. www.ebay.com/itm/325747371491

The original is fairly quick in the hand because of the POB. The Windlass feels much different. My remark on the grip being too large, that's in comparison to the original. It's more square than the original, and larger in circumference. And don't get me started on the scabbard. It's simply cheap garbage compared to an original. The canvas is thin and loosely woven, the furniture metal is much thinner, and I don't know what they used for the wooden body, but I had the blade and the scabbard displayed separately in my office for a couple of weeks, and the wood warped so badly I couldn't insert the blade. I ended up tossing the scabbard and donating the sword to a local playhouse, and just using originals for display.
