The gladius has a special place in my heart but I have yet to find one that fits what I would think are very reasonable standards.
I want a gladius that is. 1. Full Tang/Fully Functional (preferably more weight than cold steels machete version) 2. A mean ass tip, I think I like the "wasp" tips the best but I am just learning. 3. A spherical pommel
If such a gladius is made could someone please point me to where or what brand to look for. (it is frustrating because everyone is releasing gladii? but I have seen none that meat the specs. One is damascus with a round pommel but no note on sharpness or full tang. (and we know what that means)
Ok I own 4 gladius' at this current point. A honshu d2 steel, a Cold steel, A SMCO? with squared blade, and some non full tang nonsense I got basically free....
The SMCO meets the visual aspects but has a squared blade that would cost alot more to sharpen than the thing is worth and I really doubt it is full tang. (although I think it was advertised as so) but 30 bucks, doubt it.

You can look here: www.kultofathena.com/?s=Gladius&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1&orderby=price-descAlbions are probably the best but most expensive with long wait times. Windlass Pompei or Mainz, some other Windlass have hollow metal pommels instead of wood. Deepeeka has many gladii, but if you find one that you like first research on the Deepeeka site if the blade is heat treated. Many Deepeekas are not and you can't trust the KoA "battle ready" with them. If you find one you like, try to find reviews here or at MyArmoury.

My only direct experience is buying an Albion mainz years ago. IIRC from reading forums Mark Morrow's are generally well regarded. I think maybe Matthew Amt had/was involved with a site (larp legio?) that had quite a bit of gladius info & some comments on various makers.

You could look at the Condor Mainz Gladius. I don't know, how heavy it is, some say ~1kg/~2lbs others ~1,3kg/~3lbs (this might include the sheath). I really want to try it but can't find a seller in Europe right now. Condor makes machetes... Massively, MASSIVELY overbuilt machetes but I don't know how their swords are. Didn't know they made swords until recently.

Sharp blades are good to have, if Shire-folk go walking, east, south, far away into dark and danger.

Thank for the responses. I am not looking to spend more than 250-ish tops. I have been talking to a knife maker on ebay who is suppose to fix a full tang kay gladius blade on/into a wooden handle and spherical pommel
